November 1, 2017 - January 15, 2018
10:00 am - 11:30 pm
The Holiday Ice Rink at Union Square is open for the season and already filled with skaters having fun while staying in shape. Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Holiday Ice Rink offers a full season of special events including favorites such as Flashback Fridays (November 10, 2017; December 8, 2017; and January 12, 2018), Drag Queens on Ice (December 7, 2017), and Polar Bear Skate (January 1, 2018)
Every Wednesday evening will feature Arabian Nights, a Disney’s Aladdin theme skate from 6 to 7:30 pm and again from 8 to 9:30 pm. Check the event website for more information, including hours and details on special events.
And best of all, free skate lessons will be offered every weekend courtesy of Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. The classes offer beginners the chance to learn the basics and become comfortable on the ice, while more experienced skaters can refresh their memories and increase confidence. Taught by professional skating instructors, the “Learn to Skate” lesson will take place every Saturday and Sunday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Lessons are followed by a free half-hour skating session to practice your new skills.
And don’t forget to track your calories as you get fit this season at the Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square. The Kaiser Permanente Skate-o-Meter is a fun way to track the calories you burn as you skate around the rink.
Available through iTunes and GooglePlay app stores, the skate-o-meter also features a “virtual queue” that gives ice rink patrons the freedom to explore Union Square’s shopping and attractions while waiting for their turn to skate.
And don’t miss the Polar Bear Skate on New Year’s Day, January 1st, in which San Franciscans take to the ice in their bathing suits and “take the plunge” in the Canadian tradition.
